Making Solar Energy Work For Marylanders

Maryland’s Community Solar program will save energy ratepayers thousands, but first many more solar farms must be built to meet the demand for clean, renewable energy. Little River Renewables is a solar project developer with a proven track record of constructing high-quality community solar projects.

Little River Renewables is an energy project development company that is currently in the early stages of developing Community Solar farms under the new Maryland solar initiative, a state program intended to reduce power costs for homes, businesses, and communities alike. Little River Renewables is contacting property owners regarding long-term leases of their farmland to build solar projects.

Little River Renewables is a CleanCapital company, bringing with it the deep expertise and financial backing of one of the top ten commercial solar asset owners in the U.S.

What is Community Solar?

Originally launched as a pilot in 2017, and now in full effect, Maryland’s Community Solar program enables homes and small businesses to buy power from nearby solar farms at a guaranteed discount. Here’s how it works:

Solar Farm Construction

Developers like Little River Renewables build community solar farms across the state.

Clean Energy Production

The energy produced by these solar farms is sold straight into Maryland’s power grid.

Community Solar Subscribers

Homeowners and small businesses sign up to buy the solar power at a discounted price from a specific solar farm.

Energy Savings

These Community Solar customers are guaranteed a 10% discount on their monthly electric bill.

What can I expect as a landowner?

Solar farms are good tenants: they’re quiet, they pay their rent on time, and they increase the value of your property. Here’s what to expect over the life of the solar project:

For the first 12-48 months after we sign the lease, we will engage with environmental consultants to review and survey the leased areas of the property. You may use the land as you please during this time, so long as you do not disturb or alter the property.  If the land passes a series of environmental inspections, we will construct the solar farm. The whole process takes about 6 months, but the bulk of the work is done over a few weeks. The most noticeable part, driving steel piles into the ground, takes only a few days.

Once the solar farm is fully constructed and starts producing power, the full lease period starts. You will get paid up to $1,600 per acre per year for at least 25 years, and up to 40 years. When the lease period is over, the solar farm will be fully decommissioned and the land will be returned in its pre-construction condition.  Most importantly, the rent from the solar farm – up to $2 million or more over the life of the lease – helps you and your family build stable, multi-generational wealth and ensure financial strength for decades to come.
